Avenger Tool Performance – Enhanced Emulsion Separation in Pacific Basin

 Basin:
Pacific Basin

CAL-NRG
Traditional cyclic steam stimulation methods face significant operational limitations, including restricted heating radii and low oil recovery rates. These limitations are often exacerbated by high interfacial tension, which traps immobile oil within reservoirs, greatly restricting cumulative oil production. Synergetic's Enercat™ technology directly addresses these challenges by effectively reducing interfacial tension, thereby significantly enhancing oil mobility and boosting overall recovery efficiency.
Core Issue

Problem

Prior to the Avenger Tool installation, crude oil samples consistently exhibited substantial contamination by water and sediment, complicating separation processes. The presence of distinct rag layers (complex emulsion interfaces) further impeded effective oil-water separation, significantly impacting oil quality, processing efficiency, and leading to elevated operational costs.
Solution & Results
The Avenger Tool was installed to address these contamination issues by fundamentally altering fluid properties through the reduction of heavy crude viscosity. The tool demonstrated a marked reduction in the aggregation tendencies of crude constituents, which directly minimized emulsion stability and significantly improved oil-water separation efficiency.
Improved Crude Quality:
API gravity increased from 20 to 34, resulting in lighter, more valuable, and easier-to-process crude oil.
Enhanced Flow & Stability:
Pour point dropped from -1°C to -20°C, significantly improving flow; substantial reduction in asphaltenes and total acid number (TAN) reduces deposition and emulsion stabilization.
Superior Separation Efficiency
Marked improvements in oil-water separation with noticeable reductions in sediment and rag layer formation.
