Effective Paraffin Prevention at La Vela Field with Enercat Downhole Tools

 Basin:
La Vela Field, Maracaibo Basin
 Location:
Venezuela
 Client:
Traditional cyclic steam stimulation methods face significant operational limitations, including restricted heating radii and low oil recovery rates. These limitations are often exacerbated by high interfacial tension, which traps immobile oil within reservoirs, greatly restricting cumulative oil production. Synergetic's Enercat™ technology directly addresses these challenges by effectively reducing interfacial tension, thereby significantly enhancing oil mobility and boosting overall recovery efficiency.
Core Issue

Problem

Persistent wax buildup led to frequent and costly maintenance requirements, with production levels fluctuating significantly between 8 to 50 barrels of oil per day (bopd), heavily dependent on recent hot oil treatments. The inconsistent production significantly hindered profitability and operational planning.
Solution & Results
Synergetic installed Enercat Downhole Tools, strategically targeting wax deposition issues. The technology substantially reduced Wax Appearance Temperature (WAT) and Pour Point by weakening intermolecular London Dispersion forces, directly addressing the root causes of wax precipitation and crystallization. Post-installation results demonstrated significant operational and production improvements:
Immediate production boost
to over 400 BOPD, later stabilized at 200 BOPD to manage reservoir conditions, with cumulative output reaching 70,894 barrels.
Eliminated chemical and hot oil treatments
cutting operational costs while maintaining stable production and a controlled natural decline.
~30°C reduction in WAT
(from 55°C to 25°C), significantly lowering solid wax content in the produced fluids.
