Heavy Oil & Asphaltenes

Enhanced Oil Viscosity Management Using the Enercat Trim Tool

 Basin:
Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB)
 Location:
Alberta, Canada
 Client:
Traditional cyclic steam stimulation methods face significant operational limitations, including restricted heating radii and low oil recovery rates. These limitations are often exacerbated by high interfacial tension, which traps immobile oil within reservoirs, greatly restricting cumulative oil production. Synergetic's Enercat™ technology directly addresses these challenges by effectively reducing interfacial tension, thereby significantly enhancing oil mobility and boosting overall recovery efficiency.
Core Issue

Problem

The well experienced increased viscosity as oil rose toward the surface, due to decreasing temperature and ambient pressure. This increase resulted in decreased fluid mobility, reduced pumping efficiency, increased mechanical stress, and elevated operating costs.
Solution & Results
To counteract the viscosity increase, a single 28-inch Enercat Trim Tool strainer assembly was installed at the base of the rod pump. The Enercat Trim Tool effectively stabilized viscosity by maintaining fluid properties, preventing viscosity build-up, and reducing mechanical and operational burdens. The Enercat Trim Tool delivered outstanding operational improvements after only 33 days:
86%
increase in operational efficiency, significantly boosting productivity.
46%
rise in fluid levels and associated hydrostatic pressure, optimizing reservoir pressure conditions.
95%
reduction in rod pump speed and hydraulic pressure, greatly extending equipment longevity and decreasing maintenance frequency.
