Paraffin Prevention in Cotton Draw Unit 207H with Enercat Tubing Tools

 Basin:
Permian Basin
 Location:
Cotton Draw Unit, 2nd Bone Spring Sand, Texas
 Client:
Devon Energy
Traditional cyclic steam stimulation methods face significant operational limitations, including restricted heating radii and low oil recovery rates. These limitations are often exacerbated by high interfacial tension, which traps immobile oil within reservoirs, greatly restricting cumulative oil production. Synergetic's Enercat™ technology directly addresses these challenges by effectively reducing interfacial tension, thereby significantly enhancing oil mobility and boosting overall recovery efficiency.
Core Issue

Problem

Extreme paraffin accumulation in CDU 207H led to persistent operational disruptions, elevated flow line pressures, frequent and costly remediation procedures such as chemical treatments and hot water flushes, and regular premature well pulls. This significantly increased operational expenditures and downtime, negatively affecting oil production efficiency and profitability.
Solution & Results
Devon Energy installed three Synergetic Enercat Tubing Tools below the Seating Nipple at approximately 9,388 feet Measured Depth (MD). These tools address paraffin deposition by altering the crude fluid properties, significantly reducing wax appearance temperatures and preventing paraffin buildup without the use of conventional treatments. The installation of Enercat Tubing Tools resulted in notable operational improvements and efficiency gains:
100% elimination
of chemical and hot water treatments, with no paraffin-related downtime post-installation.
No paraffin buildup observed
as confirmed by rod inspections at 36 and 133 days and clean surface flow lines with consistently low pressures.
Extended maintenance intervals
with several years anticipated before any paraffin-related issues reoccur — significantly increasing equipment life
